The Mission is the fifth episode of the first season of Designated Survivor and the fifth episode overall.

Summary[]

Kirkman dispatches a team of Navy SEALs to Algeria after learning that the government helped Majid Nassar elude custody; Wells learns the truth about MacLeish's movements on the night of the bombing; and Alex learns that someone from her past has made a damning allegation, endangering the livelihood of the Kirkman family.

Synopsis[]

  • Kirkman goes to war with Algeria. He gives the order. However, he receives new intelligence that the target is no longer in the compound and they lost Majid Nassar. It seems Nassar was warned. Apparently just before he left he received a call from the foreign department.
  • Agent Wells looks for Room 105 on a map. Jason says that he needs to go to the White House for a medal ceremony, giving Peter McLeish and his rescuers medals.
  • Nassar is hiding in the basement of a hospital with a lot of civilians. The plan is to deploy Navy SEALS instead. Kirkman goes to see the Navy SEAL leading the mission.
  • Agent Wells goes to see the architect to ask about Room 105. The Architect says it's a hideaway office. She asks for blueprints.
  • Kimble asks for explanations. Parking Lot H was full at 3am. Aaron says the helicopter is ready.
  • Kirkman talks to the lead SEAL in charge.
  • Agent Wells works with Hector. They superimpose the map and it is Room 105. They find out there were recent renovations.
  • At the airport, Kirkman meets all the SEALs for the mission. He tells Commander Max Clarkson to prioritize safety.
  • Agent Wells goes to visit Congresswoman Hookstraten to request the classified renovation plans.
  • Kirkman is up awake at night observing the trip. He frets that he's put 20 men in harms way.
  • Kirkman meets MacLeish and Hookstraten in the Oval Office. He officially notifies both of them of war.
  • Kirkman and Aaron get news that one of the SEAL choppers went down. Pilot was forced to combat land. Petty Officer Denton suffered minor injuries. Commander says no need to alter course.
  • Seth deflects a lot of press questions.
  • Emily and Aaron offer speaker to to Peter. Peter rejects it.
  • Congresswoman tells Wells that renovations happened 2.5 months ago. Wells asked who was used. Same as always except for one sub contractor, Margrove (now defunct). Specifically Room 105. Margrove would have to have security clearance. Congresswoman says one condition, she wants to be updated.
  • Alex Harkman and Emily meet up. Emily tells Alex that Aaron asked if she knows Jeffrey Myers. Turns our Jeffrey Myers is an ex boyfriend now in prison.
  • SEALs team get inside the hospital. Contact is broken. Majid Nassar is confirmed. One casualty, Max Clarkson was shot and killed in action, shielding two children with his body as terrorists were using children to shield.
  • Agent Wells briefs Jason. Room 105 was renovated to make it a bomb shelter. MacLeish's survival was planned. Coincidentally MacLeish was in the war room.
  • Kirkman meets up with Seth Emily Aaron, decides to offer vice presidency to MacLeish.
  • Jeffrey Myers is telling everyone in prison that he is the father of their son, Liam. Aaron asks Alex if Liam knows. Alex shakes her head.
  • Agent Wells and Jason go for a walk. Jason says he believes her but she can't tell anyone at all as they group is dangerous.
  • SEAL Clarksons body is taken back in a casket. President Kirkman walks up in a baseball cap to pay respect. He thanks Marino for his bravery. Max took Dentons place because Denton was injured. Max was only supposed to coordinate. Marino tells Kirkman to not question his decisions.
