The Democratic Party is one of the two main political parties in the United States, alongside the Republican Party.
Background[]
The current incarnation of the party was founded by supporters of Andrew Jackson. Politically the party leans to the left, with focus on modern and social liberalism. However, there exists a further left progressive wing to the party.
There have been 15 Democrats to serve as President of the United States, with the most recent being President Robert Richmond, who served from 2012 until his death during the Capitol Bombing in 2017.
